A case of Zika virus acquired through sexual transmission has been confirmed by Dallas County health officials in the United States.

According to a press release from the Dallas County Health and Human Services department, the patient reportedly had sexual contact with another infected individual who recently returned from a country where the Zika virus is present.

“Now that we know Zika virus can be transmitted through sex, this increases our awareness campaign in educating the public about protecting themselves and others,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director.

In related development the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye in his annual prophecy for 2016 had predicted that “a new sexually transmitted disease will surface this year”.
