Dr Adesina got to the hospital and contemplated going inside, eventually he decided to look into Lucinda’s face and tell her he was sorry. He hoped that she would hear his voice and pull out of the comma. As he stepped out of his car, he saw a familiar face entering the hospital. He increased his pace hoping to get a better view of the person. He moved quickly and called out, “Kingsley!”


Kingsley was sure that Dr Adesina hadn’t seen his face throughout the interrogation – he wore a mask. If he didn’t respond it may lead to suspicion. So he turned around and pretended not to know Dr Adesina.

“Good day Sir?”

“You are Kingsley right? Lucinda’s Brother?”

“Yes, Sorry I don’t know you sir”

“I am Lucinda’s lecturer. She has told me a lot about you. I have seen your picture a couple of times. That’s how I recognise you”

They continued to talk as they walked into the hospital together.

As they approached the reception Dr Adesina saw his wife coming in his direction. Turning to Kingsley, he said

“My brother, please excuse me let me have a word with my wife. I would join you in the ward”

“Okay sir”

“Ronke, what are you doing in this department?”

“Mr Man, what are you doing in this hospital?”

He became momentarily speechless. He had the feeling that his wife already knew why he was there.

“Man of God, do you think I do not know that all those times you were giving counselling to the young lady you were also spreading your seed?”

She came closer to his ear and whispered.

“You crossed the line when you got her pregnant. If I can’t have a child no one will have a child for you either”

There was a shout from Lucinda’s ward

“Doctor! Please come quickly my sister is not breathing!”

Kingsley was screaming at the top of his voice. The doctor and several nurses ran in his direction, Ronke moved in the opposite direction. It was at that point that he understood all that had transpired. His wife knew about Lucinda. She tried to kill her when she realised that she was pregnant. She then made it look like an overdose to avoid suspicion. Seeing that Lucinda could come around from the comma she made another attempt to kill her. He was in a dilemma. If he exposed his wife he would also be exposing himself. How could he tell people that He – A lecturer and man of God, had sex with one of his students and got her pregnant?

The hospital became a hive of activities, Kingsley was told to wait outside. He was inconsolable. Dr Adesina was in tears, he was sure that his wife had finished Lucinda this time around. Unfortunately, he couldn’t tell anyone what he had uncovered. He had to carry the secret or risk denting his reputation and destroying his family. He was in an impossible predicament.
