18:45:00Those of you that like texting while driving, you might want to learn from this lady whose life was forever changed two weeks after her 18th birthday.
Mark Sedan was involved in a ghastly car accident while she was texting and driving. She was reading an “OK” text from her mom when she suddenly hit a truck that had stopped to make a turn.
“I was warned about texting and driving, but I always thought, ‘It’s not gonna happen to me,’ ” she said.
She suffered an intense head hit from the accident and was immediately airlifted to the University of Baltimore Shock Trauma Center where she remained in the ICU for one month. She had to undergo multiple surgeries to reconstruct her face and skull. Afterwards, she spent 3 months at a rehab learning how to do all she could previously do over again.
“I’m deaf in my left ear, blind in my left eye, I lost the ability to smell and I lost all my short-term memory. I lost the ability to fall asleep without medication, I had to relearn how to walk, talk, read, write – everything.”
Mark is now 21-year-old with no friend because she lost all her friends after the accident. “They all moved on. I developed a new personality and they didn’t like who I became.”
Mark shared her story so other people could learn from the dangers involved in multitasking while driving.
“It happened for a reason. I’m able to change people’s minds about texting and driving because once I tell my story, people know it’s not worth it and they stop.”

“I know I’m making a big difference around the world and I’m very happy. It makes me feel stronger.”

Shaw, Mark’s mother, whose text she was reading at the time of the accident has also not been able to forgive herself since the accident.
“When Liz decided to share her story, I was wary because I didn’t tell anyone that it was my text that caused her accident. I was devastated, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed. But I thought, ‘If she’s willing and brave and strong enough to share her mistake, then I need to step to the plate and stand beside her.’ “
